Quite a few people have asked me to explain the difference between fine art and illustration. I guess because I have both categories up on my web site.

First this has been an ever ongoing discussion ever since the first cave man painted on a wall, and then another cave man paid a saber tooth tiger pelt to the artist to come paint his cave, or are we talking interior design?

In my opinion there isn't much difference both are art, both are expressions of what is felt by the artist. The only difference I can see... and how I have separated them on this web site is this.

Fine Art: Is something the artist wanted to create or express that is solely inside thier self.

Illustration: Is something some one asked or inspired the artist to create or express.

End of Story.

ahhh - white space, where anything is possible.

I have noticed that this scares most people, it is the major blocks to creativity.
I say get something down even if it is wrong you can change it later.

I have seen many a good designer, writer, and painter lock right up when faced with a blank page.

So just get stared even if its wrong.

 

When painting I like to through down a nice middle value wash first thing.

Bang in some blacks.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Add a few middle tones

Next soften some edges. Add some final details. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Same with any other creative endeavor, writing, painting, design. Get something down.

If I am really in a creative stupor I try to do the worst thing I can think of. You will be amazed at how often this leads to a good idea.

 

 

This being my first blog ever. I think it will be called Crow-said-"E". Because crows talk - about anything and everything in a nonsensical manner.
